Malthe Jakobsen integrated Team Peugeot TotalEnergies a few weeks ago as Official Junior driver and the young Danish is already taking part in test sessions with the team. Let’s uncover his impressions during his initial phase with the team and what his role will be.

For Christian Deltombe, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies Team Manager, the arrival of Malthe Jakobsen, young and talented driver, brought a new dynamic to the team by uniting fresh eyes with more experienced ones. The aim is to involve Malthe slowly, to get him ready for the tests, the simulator and physically so that he feels at ease to gain experience in a manufacturer programme and then to take out the best of it for the team.

“The role of the Danish driver will also to be part of the development of the PEUGEOT 9X8 and thanks to his youth we will be able to have more natural feedback, without any influence of previous experiences as an older and more experienced driver could have”, reminds us Christian Deltombe. This will allow the team to have more objective feedbacks that reinforce, or not, the ones of the official drivers.

The first test sessions at the wheel of the PEUGEOT 9X8

Malthe Jakobsen did his first test days with the team back in February and then this summer in Portimão. This second session went well, as planned and the young driver could get used to the Hypercar while testing different setups and sharing his valued feedback.

According to Christian Deltombe, “Malthe is a driver with a very human and friendly approach, he is very concentrated and relax at the same time. He brings serenity and calm in the garage, and this is also why the first test sessions with him at the wheel went very well, we are very satisfied. “

For Malthe, familiar with LMP2 cars, the changes and difference in driving are quite challenging: “first, the car is way more powerful thanks to its engine and so it is quicker in straights. There are also more tools that can help us as drivers. For example, during a long stint, with tyre degradation and fuel consumption, all these tools can help us manage and cover all kind of situations. The most difficult is to remember what every tool does, but thankfully we have the radio and the team that can give us advice.”

Malthe Jakobsen will take part in several test and simulator sessions of the PEUGEOT 9X8, and his main challenge will be to stay focused in between tests that can be organised months apart so he will have to get to acquaint himself to the car very quickly.

During his first tests and simulator sessions he was able to meet the official drivers of Team Peugeot TotalEnergies: “the work environment is super nice within the team. I didn’t yet have the chance to spend a lot of time with the other drivers, but they are really friendly and it’s great to be by their side. I think to achieve the best result possible it’s important that we are all part and act together as a team.”
