Introduced in 2020 with the Peugeot 208 Rally4, then expanded in 2021 by the Opel Corsa Rally4 and soon to be joined by the Lancia Ypsilon Rally4 (2025), Stellantis Motorsport’s Rally4 family has proven so popular that a five hundred and sixtieth car has just been delivered in Peru for Samuel Benedetti Dyer.
With some four hundred and seventy-one models sold, the Peugeot 208 R2 had already achieved record sales in the class. The car that replaced it – the Rally4, in its various versions – has since eclipsed the benchmark set by its predecessor. In fact, it has proven so popular that more than three quarters of cars in the class have been produced by Stellantis Motorsport. Over two thousand five hundred rallies have been contested by its cars throughout the world since the start of the year, especially in Europe and in Latin America.
It is actually in Latin America, more specifically in Peru, that the five hundred and sixtieth Rally4, a Peugeot 208, was delivered to Samuel Benedetti Dyer. The 57-year-old gentleman driver, a loyal customer of the brand who has already owned three other Peugeot rally cars (most recently, a 206 RC), is set to return to racing after an eleven-year hiatus to take part in the iconic “Gran Premio Caminos del Inca 2024”, an event at which he has six previous appearances. “I’m a fan of the brand,” exclaimed the Peruvian driver. “After such a long time out of racing, the 208 Rally4 is the perfect car for me, given how easy it is to get used to driving it. I hope to contest the entire ACP (Automóvil Club Peruano) championship in it next year.” Experienced 45-year-old driver Raul Velit will also be taking part in the “Gran Premio Caminos del Inca 2024”, a year on from his first outing in the Peugeot 208 Rally4. Supported by Peugeot Peru, Velit has won four out of the six rallies he has entered this year.
Stellantis Motorsport’s Rally4 cars have a tried and tested formula for success: a stand-out look featuring the same design cues as the production model and an unrivalled cost to pleasure-performance-competitiveness ratio, underpinned by unwavering reliability. Easy to get to grips with, the car is also cost-effective to run for both drivers and teams. This is especially the case as the standard set-up defined by Stellantis Motorsport enables a wide range of drivers to excel and have fun behind the wheel!
“I’m very proud,” confirmed Mayeul Tyl, Stellantis Motorsport Racing Shop Manager, “to see talented youngsters rub shoulders with more experienced competitors and gentlemen drivers in showcasing the qualities of our Rally4 throughout the world. And especially doing so in such highly competitive series and against some tough rivals. Our Rally4 cars have nonetheless become widely regarded as the benchmark in the category. They have claimed several two-wheel drive national championships, and produced notable performances at a number of international events. This goes to show that they have a high level of performance and reliability, regardless of the surface. The Racing Shop has set itself the ambitious target of supporting each of our customers as effectively as we can, constantly keeping in mind three key words: performance, reliability and driving pleasure.” One example of this dedicated support can be seen in Argentina, where a Peugeot 208 Rally4 production unit was opened recently to respond to the international success of the model. The unit helps to increase production in the strategic market of Latin America, but it also gives customers in the region the opportunity to support local industry by buying a vehicle built in situ.
