24 Hours of Le Mans: Both PEUGEOT 9X8 2024 hypercars reach the end of the world’s greatest Endurance race.

–        The no. 94 Peugeot 9X8 (Di Resta/Duval/Vandoorne) took 11th place and the no. 93 (Vergne/Jensen/Müller) finished 12th overall at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans.

–        A record crowd of 329,000 fans braved poor weather conditions to attend this year’s race, which saw numerous on-track incidents and safety car periods.

–         In difficult conditions, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies showed great perseverance to steer both Peugeot 9X8s to the end of the world’s greatest Endurance race.

The 92nd edition of 24 Hours of Le Mans was affected by intermittent showers that fell throughout the race, leading to a number of on-track incidents and several safety car periods. In total, the drivers spent seven hours behind the safety car, including a long, four-hour period in the middle of the night due to poor visibility. This changeable weather made it difficult to make the right calls on tyres and strategy.

For Team Peugeot TotalEnergies, there were several minor offs, overruns and a few errors in the Slow Zones during the race. However, thanks to the impressive reliability of the PEUGEOT 9X8 2024 on its competitive début at Le Mans, the perseverance of the entire team and support from the Lion-hearted fans who turned out in large numbers to cheer on the brand’s entries, both PEUGEOT 9X8 cars made it to the end of the race. They finished just outside the top ten in what was an honourable performance, given the exceptional 23-strong Hypercar field entered in this year’s race.

“We were expecting a tough race given the weather forecast and we certainly weren’t disappointed. The race was interrupted for a long period overnight. Our decision to fit wet weather tyres at the start of the race wasn’t the best call. In hindsight, we should have stayed on slicks, but we opted to play it safe. We fell behind and found ourselves a lap down on the leader. We managed to get back onto the lead lap, but the cars at the front were driving more quickly than we were. The big positive for me is the reliability of the cars. We now have to find some speed in order to be able to fight with best cars. I would like to thank the entire team for their hard work and thank the fans for their support.”

“It was an incredible race this year. It was the most competitive and the most difficult Le Mans I have experienced. I think it’s worth emphasizing that we completed a 24-hour race without any mechanical issues. We finished one lap behind the winner, which is an improvement on last year. Ultimately, we lacked pace, but we’ll come back stronger next time.”

Mikkel Jensen (no. 93 PEUGEOT 9X8)

“It was a tough race. It was crazy out there. We fitted each type of tyre at some point. Personally, I drove very little with slicks. It was difficult, the engineers kept sending me messages that there would be rain in five minutes, at Mulsanne or at Indianapolis. It was very hard to remain focused on the pace, there was a lot of pressure. I’m nonetheless proud of the team, which managed to get both cars to the finishing line.”

Nico Müller (no. 93 PEUGEOT 9X8)

“We had a few minor issues, with more or less significant consequences. Our race was undoubtedly made harder by the wet tyre strategy at the start. Having said that, the car drove well, which reflects the work done by the entire team. We didn’t really have the pace this weekend, but we now have to turn our thoughts to the future.”

Loïc Duval (no. 94 PEUGEOT 9X8)

“There is a little bit of frustration because a few minor racing incidents cost us a top-ten finish, which would have rewarded the hard work of the team. I think that’s what we deserved. I’m very pleased that both cars made it to the finish, which is a good step forward in terms of reliability. We were short of pace and we have to work on that. Everyone did a great job and given the difficult conditions, we managed things pretty well.”

Paul Di Resta (no. 94 PEUGEOT 9X8)

“Races like this are always difficult. I want to stress the good team spirit and the huge amount of work done on preparation of the 9X8. We lost a lap in the first two hours but we were close to the top ten. It wasn’t easy up with a new car here, up against the likes of Porsche, Toyota and Ferrari. 2025 starts now. I love this team and I would really like to see it celebrate a win here at Le Mans.”

Stoffel Vandoorne (no. 94 PEUGEOT 9X8)

“We hung in there, right to the end of the race. It was very intense with the rain and the safety car periods. I’m a bit frustrated not to finish in the points, but we weren’t far off the top ten. It’s perhaps not the result we were all hoping for and we clearly still have work to do. But I’m looking forward to being able to fight at the front soon.”
